The Story of Sishya is the story of how one man’s vision was transformed through his dedication & perseverance in the face of odds, through the support of parents and students as well the community at large, into a premier institution providing quality education in Chennai.
Sishya was founded in 1972. The school has gradually developed over the years until it has evolved into a full fledged Higher Secondary School, offering the +2 since 1986. The school is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination, whose offices are in New Delhi. It prepares students for the ICSE (Class X) and the ISC (Class XII) examinations. A state of the art Library with a Multimedia Section and Audiovisual Room along with fully equipped Laboratories for Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Science form part of the schools campus. The school has extensive games fields for a variety of sports like Cricket, Basketball, Soccer, Hockey, Athletics, Table Tennis and Badminton. Qualified coaches are available to guide the children.
Sishya has always sought to achieve total development of each pupil, with emphasis on learning and co-curricular activities. The School endeavours to ensure that each child receives his fair share of individual attention. The quality of education imparted is indicated by the achievements of former students of Sishya many of whom have already excelled themselves in many fields.
Please note: as the number of LKG seats are limited, those who have registered in the year of birth will be considered.
Admissions to other Classes depend on vacancies. Admissions are done from January till March. There will be no admissions from April to December.
Under SUPW, children learn practical activities that help them to be capable and self-sufficient. Community Service activities include visits to orphanages and schools for the physically or mentally challenged and helps to sensitize our students to the needs and problems of other children.
This year, the oration was held on the 12th of April. Mr. Palanivel Thiagarajan, Finance Minister of Tamilnadu, was the guest auditor for the occasion. The hall was packed to capacity to listen to Mr.Thiagarajan’s Speech.
The Inter House English Elocution was held on the 15th April, 2024 for students of Classes 6 – 9.
This year, the oration was held on the 9th of April 2024. Mr. Prabhu Chawla, Editorial Director - the New Indian Express, was the orator.
The Sishya Middle School Quiz was held on 8th April, 2024. Students from classes 6, 7 and 8 took part in this Inter-House Competition.
The Hindi Elocution for classes 5 to 7 was held on 5th of April 2024. The Judge for the event was Mrs. Nidhi Gupta.
The 2024 Inter-House Rangoli Competition, held on April 2nd, was a vibrant celebration of creativity and skill.
Sishya bade farewell to the ISC Batch of 2024 on the 1st of April 2024. A day of fond reminiscence and teary farewells.
The Sishya Parent Teachers Association (PTA) AGM this year was held on the 22nd of March 2024.
The 35th Sishya Annual Kiddies Meet was held on Saturday, 2nd March, 2024. The Chief Guest was Mrs. Sumangala Chidamber, PTA president for the year 2023-24.
On 3rd February 2024, Sishya organized its 40th Annual Inter-House Athletics Meet. The four School Houses competed in a fierce but friendly manner.
The investiture ceremony, conducted on the 31st of January 2024, acquainted the incoming leaders with their duties and responsibilities.
One of Sishya’s most eagerly awaited events of the year is the Overnight camp where students from Classes 4 to 8 and 11 enjoy an overnight stay at school.
With India becoming a fast-rising star in the global firmament, the students chose to highlight the nation and its achievements under the label ‘India on the Global Stage’.

Aadhya Rajiv of class 3 won the Second place in the Tamilnadu State Crescent Chess Tournament 2023 under 8 girls’ category
In the Achievers Major League a Cricket Tournament held in Mumbai, Aneesh Vidyut of class 3 was awarded the Player of the Match for his 5 wicket haul.

Mr. K. I. Thomas, the founder of Sishya, began a nursery-cum-preparatory school in January 1972 at Edward Elliots Road with just 28 pupils on its rolls.
KIT Thomas Educational Society is granted ICSE Certification. First school magazine is published.
Sishya’s 1st batch consisting of 9 students appear for the ICSE examination. Sishya students participate in a school broadcast on AIR for the first time. Usha Uthup’s benefit concert for Sishya.

Sishya PTA formed. It was in this year also that the First Sishya Fete was held in November 1983.
A new Principal's Block housing the Senior School and the Laboratories is constructed with funds raised primarily through donations received from parents and well wishers of the school.
Mr. V. Hensman takes over as principal. A person with an avid interest in music and dramatics, he directed and oversaw the annual school plays. Sishya starts +2 classes.
Ms. Thangam Thomas passed on. In Sishya many remember her for all the little things she did—like standing at the gate and handing out Easter eggs to all.

In 1989, the Junior School- cum- Auditorium block was constructed and was the venue for the Inaugural meeting of Sishya Alumni.
Ms. Grace Cherian passed on. She is fondly remembered as a strict but fair person. Grace Cherian was a punctilious woman, detailed oriented and correct in everything she said and did.
N.K. Sharma taught chemistry for the senior classes. He introduced a wider variety of Inter-House cultural competitions, and the Inter-School Cultural, Sishyamrita.
Mr. KIT Thomas passed on. He has the singular privilege of having fathered and built two institutions that despite the passage of time remain synonymous with his name.
The pre-school complex consisting of little cottages and a delightful kiddies’ play area complete with a stage was constructed under the shade-giving trees in the premises.
In 1994 the playground is completely re-laid and re-surfaced and converted to facilitate athletics and games even in the rainy season.
Vivian Simcock taught mathematics for Class 10, introduced the concept of ‘Heads of Departments’ and SUPW activities, and increased the gamut of Inter-House competitions.
In 1997, on the school’s Silver Jubilee, the new Library Block is inaugurated and named The Thangam Thomas Library Block after one of the school’s co–founders.
B.J. Caszo (2000 – 2002) was working with the Council before he joined Sishya. He taught English for Classes 10, 11 and 12.

The old school Auditorium is replaced with a new building housing the new auditorium, Computer Labs, Maths Lab, and the Junior School classes. This building was completed and inaugurated in 2006.
In 2010 , in association with the CL Metha Trust, the Dr. C.L. Metha Sishya OMR school is opened in Thoraipakkam.
The EFIS is opened in the main school campus to cater to the French community in Chennai.
The existing sports field is relaid and resurfaced to support Sishya’s extensive sporting activities through the year. The whole school is converted into WiFi campus.
The cottages are renovated and made into smart classrooms with a generous donation from MRF.
