SUPW and Social Work

Sishya’s distinctive feature is its innovative Socially Useful Productive Work (SUPW) program, where students from Grades 9 to 12 engage in hands-on, experiential learning activities on Fridays from 2 to 3 p.m. This pioneering program aims to equip students with a wide range of practical skills, promoting self-sufficiency, independence, and confidence. By offering a diverse array of pursuits, including vocational skills, wellness activities, life skills, and creative pursuits, SUPW provides students with a comprehensive education that extends beyond the classroom.

Led by experienced professionals, SUPW classes foster critical thinking, creativity, and lateral thinking, encouraging students to approach problems from unique angles and develop innovative solutions.

By participating in SUPW, students develop into capable, self-assured, and well-rounded individuals, fully prepared to navigate the challenges of everyday life and make a positive impact in their communities.

Sishya Social Work

The Socially Useful Productive Work (SUPW) program at Sishya is a multifaceted initiative that extends beyond the realm of practical skills, delving into the realm of social responsibility and community engagement. A vital component of this program is ‘Social Service’, which aims to instill empathy, compassion, and a deep sense of social awareness in students.

As part of this initiative, students embark on visits to various institutions that cater to diverse segments of society. These institutions include those that provide support and care to differently-abled children, orphanages that offer a safe haven to children without families, old age homes that care for the elderly, and schools that cater to first-generation learners, such as Seva Samajam and Avvai Home.

These visits serve as a powerful catalyst for broadening students’ perspectives, helping them to develop a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by different members of society. By engaging with individuals from diverse backgrounds, students begin to appreciate the complexities of social issues and develop a sense of empathy and compassion.

Moreover, the SUPW program fosters meaningful collaborations between Sishya and various social organizations. Some of these organizations arrange for games and activities to be held on the Sishya campus, providing students with opportunities to interact with children from diverse backgrounds. These interactions not only help to break down social barriers but also promote a sense of inclusivity and social responsibility.

Through the SUPW program, students at Sishya are sensitized to the needs and challenges of others, developing a deeper appreciation for the importance of social responsibility and community engagement. By instilling these values in students from a young age, Sishya aims to shape socially conscious citizens who are equipped to make a positive impact in their communities.
